PWSD requires backflow prevention devices in all customer plumbing systems where potential contamination could occur. This is to protect your water supply from contamination and to safeguard everyone's health on our water system.
These devices prevent water that has already passed through the meter from being siphoned back into the public water system, and possibly contaminating the entire system.
Examples of backflow hazard include, but is not limited to:
Dairies, car washes, veterinary facilities, dental clinics, meat processing facilities, auxiliary water systems, and portable tanks for transporting water from the public water system.
It is the customer's responsibility to furnish, install and maintain in working order the backflow prevention device. These devices must be inspected by a certified backflow prevention assembly tester at the time of installation and once a year after that.
